White men can jump!
Silver Dollar Games are like the class clown of Indie Developers, always making crazy games and goofy videos. Well this week they released a new game called The Jump Hero, and while it’s not really very funny, it is fun as hell.
The Jump Hero is a platformer that puts you in control of this little tiny white guy who has to, well, jump. You work your way through the levels jumping from one platform to another, very quickly I might add, collecting stars and free men and avoiding hazards along the way.
The setup is pretty simple but once you start, you’ll be hooked. To give you an example, I had Deus Ex Human Revolution, Serious Sam Double D and Rock of Ages just waiting to be played and yet I couldn’t tear myself away from The Jump Hero. Now I know most of you probably just said “what an idiot”, but go download the game and see for yourself. Ok so maybe I did eventually stop to play Deus Ex, I mean it’s the new Deus Ex. Still, I wasn’t happy that I couldn’t play both at once.
There are 3 modes available to play here. Normal, 3 Lives and Sudden Death. Normal tasks you to make it through the levels collecting stars (4 in a row gets a free man) for points, avoiding hazards and collecting the little green free men. You play this until you run out of lives, racking up the sickest high score you can. The levels get harder the longer you go, with more hazards, free men and stars to collect. Within each level are the letters to spell out Jumphero, and if you collect all the letters you are rewarded with some bonus points. It can get pretty intense after playing for about 10 minutes. Your little white guy can jump, double jump, glide in the air over long gaps and also dive really quick if needed to catch a ledge or grab a collectible. The gameplay is simple, addictive and extremely fun. These are all qualities of a great Indie game.
3 Lives is pretty self-explanatory, you only have 3 men to see how far you can make it and how high of a score you can rack up, no free men available here. Sudden Death is just how it sounds, 1 life, how far can you make it?
All of the modes are a blast and can be played with up to 9 friends, taking turns, one at a time. I don’t even care about my friends with this game, I want to play all the time, just me. The Jump Hero is by far Silver Dollar Games best game yet and one of the best Indie games I’ve ever played. At the cost of 80pts($1), this game is a steal and I recommend everyone check it out.
