Gears of War 3 “Forces of Nature” DLC Announced

Posted by Peter Carpenter | 17 Feb 2012 |

Can you get a headshot during a snowstorm?

Epic Games have announced that the newest DLC, Forces of Nature, for Gears of War 3 will be released on March 27th, 2012.

The DLC includes 5 maps; 3 brand new maps and 2 old favorites will return. The new maps, Cove, Aftermath and Artillery are set either during or after a natural disaster such as a Tsunami, Snowstorm or heavy fog (a thermal scope would come in handy here). They didn’t reveal which maps will feature which type of mother nature’s wrath, but either way it’s pretty cool that they are incorporating these live events into the maps as you play. Most of the time you would just get a map covered in snow and can only imagine the storm that took place, not with these maps. You will have to snipe, shotgun and throw grenades during a live storm. That sounds fun.

The 2 classic maps making a comeback are Raven Down from Gears of War, and Jacinto from Gears of War 2. Both maps have been popular requests by Gears of War fans since Gears of War 3 was released and Epic Games have heard your cries and listened. When playing horde or beast mode on the 5 maps, you will have access to special weapons called “Elemental Cleavers”, which have different extra damage modifiers, such as the imulsion cleaver which will explode on impact.

Along with the new maps, the Forces of Nature DLC will include 4 new character models (pictured above), 7 new weapon skins, and will bring back the highly requested game type Guardian for all maps included.

The Gears of War 3 Forces of Nature DLC will cost you 800 MS points, unless you purchased the Season Pass, which in that case makes it free.

I’m a bit miffed there’s no Beast mode DLC to extend it a bit. Like playing it but it’s too short!
