So you wanna be an MMA game?
345 Games have announced a new arcade style MMA fighting game, Bellator: MMA Onslaught, that will launch this summer on Xbox 360 and PS3.
MMA Onslaught will feature a more accessible arcade style combat system compared to the simulation style of UFC Undisputed or even EA MMA, with quick striking combos similar to traditional fighting games, and a ground game that will consist of transitions by using the right stick and button mashing for submissions. The roster will feature actual Bellator fighters, but they have not revealed which ones yet. I assume we’ll at least see their current champions like Ben Askren, Cole Konrad, Hector Lombard and Michael Chandler, and some of their other popular fighters like Eddie Alvarez. After that it’s anyone’s guess on how many others, and who, make the roster.
I’m really not sure what to think of this. As an MMA fan, I like the idea of Bellator getting more recognition as they grow, but if this game isn’t very good, that could hold them back from gaining any more respect from the casual MMA fans. At the same time, I like the idea of an arcade style MMA game, so hopefully the game turns out to be good.
Speaking of Bellator, you can catch Bellator: 60 live tonight on MTV2.
