Borderlands 2 Secrets Guide

Posted by The Controller Online Staff | 21 Sep 2012 |

Find all the secrets that Pandora is hiding.

In your journey through Borderlands 2 you’ll find that the world of Pandora is hiding a number of secrets and Easter Eggs. This guide will show you how to find them and net yourself a few achievements / trophies on the way.

Minecraft Easter Egg

Borderlands 2 is hiding a secret Minecraft themed area complete with Creepers and bonus Minecraft themed character skins. SPOILER WARNING: later in the game, the town of Sanctuary will rise into the air. When the game reaches this point you’ll be able to go to where Sanctuary used to be and enter a new area called Sanctuary Hole. After you drop down into the hole there will be an entry to another new area called Caustic Caverns.

Move through the Caustic Caverns until you reach the northwest part and look for two elevated railways going into a tunnel. In here you’ll see some Minecraft Style blocks that you can break down with melee attacks. In this area you’ll find some Creepers and a Badass Creeper that you can kill for a chance to get some new character skins.

Tribute to a Vault Hunter

The Tribute to a Vault Hunter Achievement / Trophy can be obtained by finding the NPC, Michael Mamaril in the town of Sanctuary. He looks like this:

Find this guy and talk to him, he’ll give you a gun and this will unlock the achievement. This was Gearbox’s way of immortalizing a fan of Borderlands who passed away before the second game was released. Not a bad way to be remembered. Michael will also give you more guns, you simply have to leave Sanctuary and complete a mission, then return. He does have a number of places he can spawn within Sanctuary, but if you look around enough you can track him down.

What Does it Mean Achievement / Trophy

In the Highlands area you’ll be able to drop down to a secret camp where you can see a faint Double Rainbow up in the sky. Handsome Jack will talk about how it goes all the way across the sky, then the Achievement will unlock. See the video below from our friend PowerPyx for the exact location:

Up High, Down Low Achievement / Trophy

When you first arrive in Sanctuary, find Claptrap and complete his quest Claptrap’s Secret Stash. Right after you complete it you’ll notice that you can press Y / Triangle to high five Claptrap, after you do this hit the melee attack button to hit his hand. This can be missed and you must perform the high five quickly after completing the quest.

Definitely An Italian Plumber Achievement / Trophy

To unlock this one you’ll have to find, and defeat, the rare monster Donkey Mong. Donkey Mong can be found in the Eridium Blight area and you can watch the video below for the particulars, furnished by the folks at Game Front:
