Access The Halo 4 Crimson Map Pack Free Until December 18th Due To An Error

Posted by Scott Grant | 12 Dec 2012 |

For a limited time only.

Now, before you get too excited, read the headline carefully. The Halo 4 Crimson Map Pack should be showing up as a free download, but you’ll only be able to access it until December 18th.

It seems like 343 Industries, and Microsft, messed something up and, all users can download the Halo 4 Crimson Map Pack for free right now. There is, of course, a catch. Since Halo 4 came with a special 14-Day Xbox Live Gold trial membership, 343 were going to also reward these players with free, limited time, access to the Crimson Map Pack. Something went wrong, and the map pack wound up being free for everyone.

Microsoft PR had the following to say, when speaking with Kotaku today:

As an additional reward to those customers that participated in our “14 Day, Buy and Play” program (which ran from Nov. 6 – Nov. 20), we are providing complimentary access to the Crimson Map Pack for a limited time, through Tuesday, December 18 at 9am UTC/GMT.

There were some initial complications with the distribution of the “14 day, Buy and Play” reward tokens, and so we decided to provide the additional reward of complimentary access to the Crimson Map Pack, for a limited time, as a “thank you” to our customers that contributed to the success of the “Halo 4″ launch.

While this is good for people who want to try things out, I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of angry folk come December 19th. Exactly how access will be revoked remains to be seen.

So access will indeed be revoked for the freebie? Because I would hate to have paid for it…
