Mix and match until your wallet is empty.
Yesterday was an exciting day for Skylanders fans, as Activision announced that the next game in the series will be called Skylanders SWAP Force and it will be released this Fall, just in time for Christmas.
Even though SWAP Force will include a brand new game, running on a brand new engine, with new gameplay mechanics like climbing, flying, digging, teleporting and even jumping, the biggest new feature is that the actual Skylander figures will come apart and you can mix and match to create new characters. You can take the top half of any character and stick it onto the bottom half of any other character, creating a new character with abilities from both previous ones.
There will be 16 brand new SWAP Force characters (creating 256 character combinations), 16 brand new regular Skylanders, 8 LightCore characters and 16 returning Skylanders in a new Series 3 version. Don’t worry though, all of your old Skylanders and even the Giants will work in the new game on the new SWAP Force Portal as well.
I like the idea of combining characters and the new gameplay mechanics are sure to mix things up nicely, but I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t say anything about whether or not the game would include online co-op or multiplayer, which is one of the biggest things missing from the series in my opinion. Hopefully they are saving that for later down the road.
For now, check out the trailer below to meet some of the new SWAP Force characters and see them SWAP back and forth.
